Gayle H. Jaeger, DVM, MSpVM, DACVS-SA, a native of Long Island, New York, received her Bachelor's of Science from Syracuse University and earned her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from North Carolina State University. She completed an academic internship at Oklahoma State University and a specialized surgical internship in Orlando, Florida at Affiliated Veterinary Specialists. Dr. Jaeger then returned to North Carolina State University for her surgical residency training while earning a Masters degree in Specialized Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Jaeger was inducted into the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2004. Dr. Jaeger worked with California Veterinary Specialists in San Marcos, California specializing in Orthopedics and Surgical Oncology. She has an avid interest in orthopedic research and has authored several scientific articles including topics on range of motion, joint isometry, and shearing injuries. Why I Do What I Do.. "Being raised in a very mechanically inclined family, I have always been interested in surgery. My mother, when she was younger, had an interest in veterinary medicine, but during a time when it was not en vogue for women to enter into the progression. Being deterred, she was always supportive of her children's interests, and instilled the conviction in her children, that we could accomplish whatever we set our minds on. For me it was orthopedic surgery, and my erector sets and Legos became external skeletal fixators. For a short time in college I entertained entering the human field rather than veterinary medicine. I am thankful every day, with every lick in the face and tail wag, that I made the right decision." .
Dr. Joshua Levinson, DVM, DACVECC is the Medical Director of Emergency and Specialty Services and received a BA from Oberlin College before earning his DVM from the University of Florida in 2002. He has practiced emergency medicine at VCA Newark since then, and completed a residency in Critical Care in 2009. His special areas of interest include endocrine derangements in the critical patient, hemoperitoneum, and sepsis/SIRS. Why I Do What I Do.. "The most important part of veterinary medicine to me is crisis management. The opportunity to care for pets in distress is a chance to help them when they need it most. The equipment that we have at VCA Newark allows me to intervene in a way that I find useful and rewarding. Concurrently, the crisis that owners face with their pet's emergency provides an occasion to inform and guide; an important responsibility. I can relate to those with a strong human-animal bond, and therefore take veterinary emergency medicine and critical care very seriously.".
Dr. Meredith Miller, DVM, DACVIM, initially began her career in veterinary medicine as a licensed veterinary technician trained at Medaille College in Buffalo, NY. From there she received both her B.S. and Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. Dr. Miller pursued an internship at the VCA Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center in Norwalk, CT and then returned to Cornell University for residency training in internal medicine. . Dr. Miller has specific interests in endocrinology, hematology and infectious diseases, and above all enjoys the strong bond with both patient and client that internal medicine affords. Why I Do What I Do.. "My Dad is a retired veterinarian so a love for taking care of animals started early for me. I always 'assisted' my Dad when he had to bring a sick animal home at night to be watched closely, as there was not a 24 hour emergency clinic in the area at that time. These experiences, along with a love a love fro James Herriot books, inspired me to become a veterinarian. As an Internist my job now not only includes care of sick animals, but partnering with their owners to provide them the best care. For me, no job could be more rewarding. When I'm not at work I love spending time with my two spoiled cats, Newman and Fletcher.".

She joined the General Practice team at VCA Newark in June, 2002. Dr. Arculus is currently the General Practice Medical Director. Why I Do What I Do.. "Like many veterinarians, I knew at very young age that I was going to be a veterinarian. It wasn't until I started as a technician at VCA Newark in 1990 that I truly began to understand what veterinary medicine was all about. It is being an advocate for the pet, an educator, a friend, a confidant for the pet's parents, and a positive role model for the community. With my 23 years of past experience, I truly believe that the staff, clients and pets of VCA Newark are my extended family.".
